Safe Routes to School

Sheldon ISD is committed to ensuring that all of our students can utilize physically active transportation, such as walking and bicycling, for a safe and enjoyable trip to school. This Safe Routes to School Plan aims to address the issues that will impede active transportation and seeks to strategically solve these problems by implementing a Safe Routes to School program. We are currently in the process of applying for the Safe Routes to School grant from the Texas Department of Transportation. Our primary goals for active school transportation are to increase the number of students walking and bicycling to school as well as to improve the safety of students walking and bicycling to school. The Safe Routes to School Grant is sponsored by Harris County Precinct 2. Royalwood Elementary and Sheldon Elementary are the two campuses in Sheldon ISD located within Precinct 2 that qualify to apply for the funds.
