Happy New Year!
We are just as excited about the second semester as we are the first. We hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday break. The 2016-2017 school year has been off to a great start and we want to thank you for partnering with us in educating your child. I am asking that you continue to partnering with us by assisting in two important areas of campus need. The first is focusing on reading. Reading is one of the most important subjects in school, as it is hard to answer critical thinking questions in various subjects and read word problems if a child struggles in reading. Here are a few tips to assist your child at home:
-Set aside 10-20 minutes a day for reading with your child. Listen to your child as he/she reads.
- Read aloud to them. This builds listening, writing, and vocabulary skills.
- Use Closed Captioning: Turn off the sound on the TV and have your child read the words while watching a favorite show. During commercial breaks, as your student to recall what he/she read while watching the show. This also builds comprehension.
Lastly, we need your support in student attendance. Please be sure your child is at school each day. Our campus goal is to be above 97.5% attendance. We have been at 97.5% attendance for the past two years. Students are awarded incentives for coming each day. So far, 3rd grade and 5th students are campus champs in having the highest attendance rates for the 1st nine week and 2nd nine week periods.
We have many great things taking place at Carroll Elementary and we thank you for supporting our efforts in continuing to provide your child an individualized education. I look forward to all things this new year will bring.
